I had a great day yesterday. Had brunch with two of my besties and then wandered around the Union Square shops browsing for Christmas stuff. It was the first time in forever that I've just been out and about in NYC, enjoying what the city has to offer. Typical of me, I ran into a bunch of people I knew. First, at Anthropologie, I ran into a friend of mine from college I haven't seen in SIX years. Weird. Then, saw some alums around and about Union Square. It just reminded me of how many roots I have in this city and that's one of the reasons I love it. I even burnt my tongue on a Starbucks coffee because I completely flaked and forgot to put milk in it. I guess it's cuz I was having fun. Either way, I met up for a pre-birthday party dinner with a good friend and ate grown up spaghetti-o's and was charmed by an Italian man. Side note, how do the Italians learn to be so charming? I need to go back. Just roaming around the city, it had that distinct New York holiday smell where the air is crisp. The energy around the East Village was infectious, and rather than feeling old and decrepit like I have been lately, I felt excited and a part of the mix. I started to remember why I say I love New York and why I've managed to stay here for so long.
But I might move to California. Can I get that same energy and excitement about life in the BayArea? I might need to check it out....
